heidig Johnnie's music is an interesting and novel mix of jazz, country, folk, rock and probably other genres I am missing. His music is uplifting, energetic and can also be soothing and mellow. He has an uncanny ability to create tunes that are melodic and stay with you. I love listening to him play! Favorite track: Wishing Well.

about

"Gilmore is a solo instrumentalist at a time of increased solitude, and he lives alone, across the country from where he grew up. When the shutdown began, Gilmore was mere days from embarking on his first nationwide solo tour. In May, both of his mother’s parents died of the coronavirus; he performed music at the funeral, by submitting a prerecorded video. His home felt less like home the more time he stayed inside. These musings led to When You Come Home...this summer, Gilmore needed to write it."

"Gilmore’s stunning virtuosity has always been in service of the music, not about showing off, and when faced with the mandated isolation of COVID-19, this ability to tell a complete story as a solo player became an artistic lifeline…Gilmore’s stylistic versatility serves him well here in creating a program that covers a wide range of emotions, which is rare territory for a solo instrumentalist, and particularly so for a bassist. From bluegrass to funk to showtunes, there is a lot of ground covered on 'When You Come Home.'"

about

Johnnie Gilmore Los Angeles, California

When he first picked up the electric bass, Johnnie Gilmore knew he'd found his calling. It didn’t take him long to find his voice on the instrument (think Paul McCartney’s melodicism, Stevie Wonder’s hard-edged harmony, and Victor Wooten’s technical showmanship thrown in a blender), honing his repertoire as a subway busker in his native Boston. His new single "You’ve Got a Friend" is out now! ... more
